Know your three numbers: $24,500, $8,000, and $11,250 - and which one applies to you.
The facts
- 012026 elective deferral limit: $24,500 (IRC 402(g), IRS Notice 2025-67).
- 02Age 50+ catch-up: +$8,000. Ages 60-63 enhanced catch-up: +$11,250 (SECURE 2.0). Catch-ups are Roth-only since 2025.
- 03Contribute at least 5% of pay to get the full government match (1% automatic + up to 4% match) - contributing less leaves free money on the table.
- 04The 402(g) limit covers YOUR contributions only - agency/matching contributions count against the separate 415(c) annual additions limit, not your $24,500.
