Veteran Property Tax Exemption — Arkansas

Arkansas wipes out property tax entirely for its most severely disabled veterans: homestead and personal property, exempt. Amendment 79 to the state constitution and A.C.A. § 26-3-306 make it happen.

The rules in Arkansas

Who qualifies

Disabled veterans who are 100% disabled, or who receive VA special monthly compensation for the loss or loss of use of limbs, blindness, or similar qualifying service-connected conditions — and their surviving spouses (unremarried) and minor dependents

Benefit

Full exemption of the homestead and its contents, plus personal property owned by the disabled veteran — county and state

How to apply

Apply with the county assessor (or collector's office) with VA certification of the rating/SMC

Watch out

2025's Act 407 amended and expanded this exemption — if you were denied in the past under older criteria, recheck your eligibility

Every one of these programs hinges on a VA service-connected rating. If you have not filed a claim, that is the starting point — a free, VA-accredited VSO (DAV, American Legion, VFW) will file it for you at no cost. A higher rating unlocks not just property-tax relief but healthcare, income benefits, and — for business owners — SDVOSB contracting eligibility.
